Buyesi Youth Initiative
Empowering children in rural Uganda through sustainable goat farming, education, and community development.

Every Goat, Every Child's Future
The Buyesi Youth Initiative (BYI) is a registered nonprofit organisation in Uganda focused on empowering rural communities through sustainable goat farming. Based in Puti-Puti Subcounty, Pallisa District, BYI works directly with smallholder families and their children.
Their vision is to become the leading organisation empowering smallholder goat farmers to achieve economic prosperity, food security, and improved livelihoods through sustainable and innovative farming practices.
BYI provides training, resources, and support to smallholder goat farmers, enabling them to adopt commercial farming practices, increase productivity, and access profitable markets — creating a sustainable cycle that directly benefits children's education and wellbeing.

How it works
Goat Farming
Families receive goats and training in commercial farming practices. A rural breeding model allows herds to grow sustainably, creating long-term income for households.
Education
Revenue from goat farming funds children's education — school supplies, fees, and learning materials. BYI also distributes exercise books, pens, and art supplies directly to children in the community.
Community
The initiative strengthens the entire community — improving food security, healthcare access, and economic resilience for families across Buyesi Village and the wider Puti-Puti Subcounty.

A model for sustainable impact
The Buyesi Youth Initiative represents exactly the kind of programme YoungStart was created to support. It combines practical skills training with economic empowerment, creating a self-sustaining cycle that lifts entire communities.
Rather than creating dependency, BYI gives families the tools and knowledge to build their own livelihoods — while ensuring children have access to education and the opportunity to shape their own futures.
By supporting YoungStart's fundraiser, you are helping us partner with initiatives like BYI and bring this model to more communities across Africa.
